May 10, 2003
(Tempe, AZ) - USF women's golf shot a 296 in the final round, paced by a par round by junior Jordan Auten, finishing ninth at the 2003 NCAA West Regional held at Karsten Golf Course, hosted by Arizona State. The Lady Dons were six strokes out of eighth place with a three round total of 911 (302, 313, 296). The top eight teams in each regional advance to the NCAA National Tournament. Stanford took eighth place with a 905 (301, 307, 297). San Francisco, competing in their third consecutive NCAA regional, rallied after a tough second round, but could not make up enough ground on the rest of the field. Senior Susie Laing shot a one-over 73 in the final round and was USF's top finisher with a share of 16th place with a 222 (73, 76, 73), while sophomore Mariko Shimozaki was tied for 34th with a 228 (76, 76, 76). Auten finished with a 229 (78, 79, 72). Senior Lisa Chen shot a 75 in her final collegiate round, whike fellow senior Lyndsey Devenish carded a 79. Head coach Sara Range was happy the way her team responded after a disappointing second round.
"We did what we had to do to put ourselves in a position to win today. They battled back and played well today. I am proud of them. We missed an opportunity with a bad second round but we played within ourselves today and competed," Range stated.
