USF Women's Golf Finishes Fourth at 2003 Oregon State Classic

(Sun River, OR) - San Francisco women's golf battled the cold and even snow during the final round of the 2003 Oregon State Classic at the Woodlands Golf Course in Sun River. Senior Kristi Larsen led the charge in the final round, equaling her career-low with a four-under 68, helping the Lady Dons shoot the low round of the day with a 305 to climb into a share of fourth place with a 831 (315, 311, 305).

Larsen earned runner-up honors a week after capturing medalist honors at the 2003 Ptarmigan/Ram Classic in Fort Collins. Larsen shot 220 (78, 74, 68) to capture the hardware. It was the second four-under 68 in as many weeks for Larsen, who also shot 68 in the opening round last week.

USF vaulted from seventh place heading into the final round into a share of fourth place. UNLV won the tournament with a 905 (295, 297, 313), followed by Texas Christian's 917 (307, 297, 313) and Portland State carded a 927 (298, 317, 312) for third place. UC Irvine (312, 307, 312) tied the Lady Dons in fourth place.

Brooke Tull shot a 219 (74, 70, 75) to capture medalist honors for the Horned Frogs, narrowly beating Larsen.

Junior Mariko Shimozaki shared 28th place with a 236 (82, 79, 75), while senior Jordan Auten shared 30th with 237 (80, 78, 79).

USF head coach Sara Range was happy with the way her team coped with the elements and bounced back after a difficult first day of the tournament.

"The conditions were really difficult today. I am so proud they were able to keep their focus and shoot the low round of the day despite the challenges. Kristi played fantastic once again. The rest of the team responded and Mariko bounced back after a tough start yesterday. I am proud of the way they responded today. They showed me a lot," Range said.

San Francisco returns to action when they travel to Sammamish, WA for the 2003 Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational, hosted by Washington October 6-7.
