USF Women's Golf in Seventh Heading into Second Round of Edean Ihlanfeldt

(Sammamish, WA) - USF women's golf shot a 305, good for seventh place in the opening round of the 2003 Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational, Monday at the Sahalee Country Club. Senior Jordan Auten led the way for the Lady Dons in the three-day event, hosted by the University of Washington, with a one-over 73.
Senior Kristi Larsen carded a 75, while junior Mariko Shimozaki turned in a 77. USF is five strokes out of the top-five of the elite event and owns a commanding lead over four Pac-10 schools. Cal, ranked fourth in the country according to Golfweek, leads the tournament after a three-under 285.
USC (293), UCLA (297), Arizona (299) and BYU (300) round out the top-five of the tournament. Stanford is in sixth place, one stroke in front of San Francisco.
Auten shares 10th place on the leader board, while Larsen owns a share of 22nd.
Head coach Sara Range is pleased with the way her team performed on a challenging course against a highly competitive field.
"I am very proud of the way they played today. This is a very challenging golf course and it really makes you think. I am pleased with the way they responded to the challenges and hopefully this will give us confidence heading into the next round," Range said.
