(Tacoma) - After the first day of play, USF places 10th out of an extremely competitive field that includes seven teams of the Pac-10 teams. The Lady Dons shot a total round of 314. USF's Susie Laing, who shot 73 (even), is tied for 7th.

USC's Becky Lucid, the defending U.S. Amateur Champion, shot 65 to lead the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational at the Tacoma Country and Golf Club. The Trojans are currently leading the tournament by 4 strokes. USC finished the first day of play at even par 292 while the Huskies shot 296. California is third at 299 and BYU and Pepperdine are tied for fourth at 8-over 300.

Lucidi's 65, broke the course record by one stroke. Lucid, who won the long drive championship at last year's NCAA Championships at Washington National Golf Club, posted birdies on holes four, five and nine to make the turn at 3-under 33. She birdied holes 12 through 14 and 17 and 18 on the back nine to finish at 8-under. Lucid did not have a bogey during her round.

Pepperdine's Katherine Hull, Oregon's Therese Wenslow and Oregon State Leah Whiting are tied for second with a first 71 first round.

Sophomore Mariko Shimozaki is tied of 36th with first round of 79. Senior Lisa Chen and Junior Jordan Auten both shot 81 and are tied for 47. Freshman Nikki Jacoby had a first tough round, shooting 88.

On Tuesday, October 8, the Lady Dons are playing their second round.
