USF Women's Golf Finishes Seventh at 2003 Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational
Oct. 8, 2003
(Sammamish, WA) - USF women's golf shot a 311 in the final round of the 2003 Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitaitonal to finish seventh in the 54-hole event, hosted by the University of Washington at the Sahalee Country Club. San Francisco finished with a 927 (305, 311, 311) finishing three strokes out of the top-five.
Senior Kristi Larsen continued her remarkable run, capturing runner-up honors in her second straight tournament with a 221 (75, 73, 73). Larsen took medalist honors at USF's first event of the season at the 2003 Ptarmigan/Ram Fall Classic and had a second place showing at the 2003 Oregon State Fall Tournament. Larsen strung together nine consecutive pars during her final round.
"This course is not exactly made for my game," Larsen said. "The fairways are very narrow and there are a lot of trees. The key for me was I recovered well from not so great shots. I also putted well which always helps."
Junior Mariko Shimozaki tied for 26th with a 231 (77, 75, 79). Shimozaki finished strong in her final round, finishing birdie, birdie after starting the back nine at eight-over.
Head coach Sara Range was happy with the way her team kept battling throughout the tournament.
"It's a tough golf course. I am proud of the way they continued to focus and play despite some challenges. Kristi Larsen had another amazing tournament for us. She has been exceptional so far and I look for more great things from her throughout the season," Range said.
