USF Women's Golf Finishes Fourth at 2009 Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational

(Sammamish, WA) - USF women's golf posted its best finish of the season with a fourth place showing at the 2009 Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational Wednesday at Sahalee Country Club. The Dons were sparked by senior Natasha Podmore, who posted a runner-up finish in the event.
San Francisco shot 921 (301, 313, 307) on the challenging par-72 course playing at 6,136 yards. The Dons posted victories against three teams ranked in the top-50 in the most current Golfstat.com rankings - No. 48 San Jose State (fifth), No. 32 Oregon (8th) and No. 29 Idaho (9th).
Podmore enjoyed her best event of 2009-10 and was the only Don to post rounds of par or better, firing an even-par 72 in the opening and final round. Podmore finished strong, carding three birdies in the final round for a 220 (72, 76, 72). Senior Danielle Cvitanov also posted a top-10 showing at 227 (76, 74, 77) good for a share of eighth place. Senior Christina Stockton tied for 20th at 233 (78, 81, 79).
No. 13 Cal won the event going away, finishing at 897 (296, 303, 298), a whopping 15 strokes against No. 24 Stanford at 912 (308, 301, 303). No. 8 Pepperdine finished third at 917 (311, 302, 304) four shots in front of the Dons. The Spartans rounded out the top-five at 934 (309, 311, 314).
USF returns to action when it competes against a strong field in the 2009 Stanford Intercollegiate. Tournament action in the three-day event begins Friday, October 7, 2009 on the Stanford Golf Course.
