(Tacoma) - Led by senior All-American Mikaela Parmlid and U.S. Amateur Open champion Becky Lucidi, the USC women's golf team ran away from the field during the final round of play at the 2002 Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational at the Tacoma Country and Golf Club. San Francisco finished seventh in the elite field, including seven Pac-10 teams and six top-25 programs.

USC (292, 301, 292) shot 9-over 885 while the Huskies (296, 304, 300) finished at 24-over 900, beating Pepperdine (300, 300, 301) by one stroke. California (299, 303, 301) finished fourth at 903, while Stanford (307, 304, 294) rounded out the top-five at 905. San Francisco (314, 306, 299) shot a 919 on the par-73 course.

Senior Susie Laing led the way once again for the Lady Dons finishing with a share of seventh place after carding a 222 (73, 71, 78). Sophomore Mariko Shimozaki and freshman Nikki Jacoby fired even-par 73's for USF. Shimozaki tied for 25th after a 231 (79, 79, 73). Junior Jordan Auten recovered from a rough opening round to finish at 235 (81, 79, 75).

Head coach Sara Range was happy with the way her team responded after struggling in the opening round.

"I am happy with how they competed today. They showed a lot of character and composure on the golf course. This was an elite field here and a good measuring stick of where we stack up against some of the best teams on the West coast. We know the areas we need to improve on and now we must carry these lessons into our next tournament in Hawaii," Range stated.

Parmlid took medalist honors after winning a one-hole playoff with Pepperdine's Lindsey Wright. Parmlid pared the 371-yard first hole while Wright missed a four-foot putt for par and bogeyed. Both players finished the tournament at 5-under 70. Parmlid carded a 5-under 68 during her final round.

San Francisco competes in their final tournament of the Fall season when they travel to Hawaii to compete in the UH Invitational October 29-30 at Kapolei Golf Course in Oahu.
