USF Women's Golf in Ninth after Opening Round of Las Vegas Founders Showdown

(Las Vegas) - USF shot a 311 in the opening round of the 2004 Las Vegas Founder's Showdown Monday at the Anthem Country Club. Freshman Jessica Potter roared to the top of the leader board with a one-under 71, sharing the lead with Texas Tech's Megan Hull.
Washington, ranked third nationally, leads after 18 holes with a 294, followed by host UNLV at 296, Texas Tech at 299, Stanford at 301, while USC rounds out the top-five of the highly competitive field at 303. San Francisco is six shots behind Colorado State, four strokes behind UC Irvine and three back of Missouri with 36 holes to play.
Potter carded an eagle on the par-4 first hole, added a pair of birdies and parred 12 holes during her strong opening round. Senior Mariko Shimozaki is tied for 32nd after an opening round 78, while freshman Casey Gee shot 80 in her first collegiate event, good for a share of 52nd.
"Jessica had an outstanding round today and I am really proud of her," USF head coach Sara Range said. "She really carried us today and hopefully everyone can recover and help us challenge. There is a lot of golf left to be played."
USF opens second round action Tuesday at 8:00 AM.
