USF Women's Golf Remains in Ninth Place at Las Vegas Founders Showdown

(Las Vegas) - USF women shot a 301 in the second round of the 2004 Las Vegas Founders Showdown and remain in ninth place at 612 (311, 301) heading into the final round Wednesday at the Anthem Country Club. Junior Nikki Jacoby fired a one-under 71 to lead the charge for the Dons on the second day of the tournament, while freshman Jessica Potter continued to play well, carding a 74 to keep a share of the lead at 145 (71, 74).
Host UNLV vaulted into the lead of the tournament at 588 (296, 292), followed by Texas Tech at 594 (299, 295), Stanford at 599 (294, 306), #3 Washington at 600 (294, 306), while UC Irvine rounds out the top-five of the nationally elite field with 603 (307, 296). San Francisco is three shots behind eighth place Colorado State (609) and four shots back of Kent State (608) with 18 holes to play.
San Francisco carded 15 birdies for the round, led by Jacoby and senior Mariko Shimozaki each with four. Freshman Casey Gee led the way for the Dons with 12 pars in her second collegiate round.
Jacoby owns a share of 35th place with 154 (83, 71), while Shimozaki shares 46th at 155 (78, 77).
"Nikki had a great round for us and we definitely needed it from her," USF head coach Sara Range said. "Jessica was very steady and showed a lot of composure. We made up some ground today, but must continue to battle and finish strong tomorrow."
