Incoming USF Golfer Katrina Hegge Posts Runner-Up Finish at Prestigious Arizona Tournament

Jan. 7, 2009

(San Francisco) - Incoming USF women's golfer Katrina Hegge has yet to play a competitive round for the Dons, but she continues to post impressive results on the amateur circuit and posted a runner-up showing in the 2008 Arizona Silver Belle tournament at the Arizona State Karsten Golf Course. The highly touted Washington prep star shot a three-under 213, finishing one stroke behind the eventual medalist.

A two-time Washington Junior Golf Association Player of the Year, Hegge carded 12 birdies and was at par or better on 45 holes during the three-day event featuring collegiate and junior golfers. The Seattle Prep senior was three-under for the tournament on par-5 holes and was two-under on par-4 holes.

"I am really impressed with the way Katrina carried herself and competed in a strong field," USF head coach Ria Quiazon said. "She showed a lot of poise and made some remarkable shots at times when they were really needed. I am excited about her competitive nature and look for her to continue to develop during the spring season. I am looking forward to her coming to USF in August."

USF women's golf has qualified for NCAA Regional play six times in the last eight seasons and enters the 2009 Spring Season ranked No. 27 according to GolfWeek.com. The Dons open the spring season at the 2009 Aztec Spring Invitational, hosted by San Diego State February 15-17.
