USF Women's Golf Set to Compete in 2010 West Coast Conference Championship

(San Francisco) - Fresh off back-to-back top-three tournament finishes, USF women's golf appears set to finish the 2009-10 regular season in strong fashion when it competes in the 2010 West Coast Conference Championship starting with 36 holes Monday at the Hiddenbrooke Country Club in Vallejo. The Dons captured runner-up honors for the eighth consecutive season to Pepperdine which won its eighth straight WCC Championship.
San Francisco enters the WCC's ranked No. 41 in the most current edition of the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. The Dons posted a runner-up showing in the 2010 Anteater Classic, hosted by UC Irvine in their last outing and tied for third at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in Hawaii.
USF once again will face stiff competition from defending WCC Champion Pepperdine. The Waves enter the event ranked No. 9 nationally and have won a pair of events to go along with five top-5 finishes in nine overall events this season.
USF IN THE 2009 WCC CHAMPIONSHIP: San Francisco posted its eighth consecutive runner up finish to Pepperdine. The Dons or the Waves have captured the tournament hardware since the inception of the event in 1997.
DONS IN THE WCC CHAMPIONSHIP: USF captured the inaugural WCC title in 1997, defeating Pepperdine. After finishing second for three consecutive seasons, the Dons upset the No. 11 Waves to claim their second crown in 2001 and advanced to the first NCAA Regional berth in program history. USF and Pepperdine have dominated the event and no other school has finished first or second.
ABOUT THE GOLF COURSE: The Hiddenbrooke Golf Club is located in Vallejo, CA. The course was designed by golf legend Arnold Palmer, featuring a par-72 course playing at 6,782 yards.
