USF's Sarah Huarte to be Honored Sunday At Team-Up for Girls Day at AT&T Park
June 11, 2010
(San Francisco) - USF head women's golf coach Sarah Huarte will be honored at AT&T Park this Sunday in a pregame ceremony as part of the Team-Up for Girls Day surrounding the San Francisco Giants vs. Oakland Athletics contest. Huarte will be one of a select group of Bay Area college coaches and student-athletes recognized for their accomplishments and for serving as outstanding role models.
In her first season as a Division I head coach, Huarte guided USF to a berth in the 2010 NCAA Regionals. San Francisco enjoyed a strong 2009-10 regular season, posting five top-five finishes out of 10 events and closed the season with back-to-back runner-up showings at the Anteater Invitational and the 2010 West Coast Conference Championship.
USF also recorded a runner-up finish at the Challenge at Onion Creek and set a new program 54-hole tournament record in the process, finishing the event with a 2-over par 842. The Dons turned in the second best team stroke average in program history (300.87)
An outstanding student-athlete, Huarte capped her collegiate career at Cal by winning the 2004 NCAA Championship.
"I feel honored to be included among some of the Bay Area's finest student-athletes and coaches," Huarte said. "BAWSI is a wonderful organization that is doing extraordinary work. That is why I love coaching so much. I have the opportunity to inspire young student-athletes through my leadership and love for the game just as they do through their Bay Area-wide programs. I'm looking forward to a long relationship with the organization and can't wait to get my team involved as well."
