Christina Stockton Reports on Adventures in Asia
June 29, 2009
USF's Christina Stockton is competing on the 26th annual 2009 Collegiate All-Star Golf Team that will play a series of tournaments in Asia from June 25 - July 19. During her travels, Stockton will provide updates of her adventures throughout Asia.
July 9, 2009 - Our first round at Hong Kong Golf Club was great! Although it was 90 degrees with 100% humidity, or so it felt! We think that may be why they play faster. The course is the most prestigious in Hong Kong. It is $1.5 million to join! It was gorgeous, with big beautiful tropical looking plants tress and flowers lining the fairways.
We played with a group of women today and enjoyed a nice country club chinese food meal afterwards. Thus far none of us girls have warmed up once for a round, due to their lack of driving ranges and I am playing great! I wonder if that means anything? Apparently Larry said he saves the best for last so we will se what Hong Kong has in store for us!!!
June 28, 2009 - We have been in Japan for one day and a half and have already played in a tournament and went sightseeing in Tokyo. We played at Camp Zama with the men and women working and living on the base. The course was very enjoyable and the weather held up for us through 14 holes as it is Japan's raining season.
After our round of golf and banquet we took off for Tokyo and Ginza. We visited a temple and enjoyed a savory chocolate Japanese treat as we walked up and down the streets. We ate a noodle dinner in Ginza, which was difficult to find because everything is very pricey in Ginza and the menus are only in Japanese. Luckily I had my "Easy to Learn Japanese" book to help us order. We had a great time practicing our Japanese with the waitress!
All of us are having a blast. We are now headed for Korea for three days the morning of the 29th! We are all looking forward to the awesome shopping and golf! Until then Sayonara!
