July 1, 2009
(San Francisco) - Junior Danielle Cvitanov capped another outstanding season for the University of San Francisco women’s golf team with selection to the 2008-09 National Golf Coaches Association Academic All-America Team, as announced Wednesday. It is the first Academic All-American selection for Cvitanov, who excelled on the course as well, capturing West Coast Conference Player of the Year honors in 2009.
A standout in the classroom and on the course, Cvitanov posted a 3.61 GPA in Exercise and Sports Science. The two-time All-WCC First Team selection also earned WCC All-Academic Team selection in 2009.
Cvitanov helped USF to a record-setting year in 2008-09 and was ranked No. 30 on the GolfStat Cup ratings following the conclusion of the regular season – tops in the WCC. Along the way, Cvitanov established the best stroke average in program history (74.06) and posted top-10 finishes in every event during the regular season. In addition to six top-five showings and runner-up honors at the Oregon Duck Invitational, Cvitanov shot the lowest round in program history with a 6-under 66 at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic.
Cvitanov is the third Don to capture NGCA All-American Scholar honors in the past two seasons, joining 2007-08 honorees Chaneng Joe and Jessica Potter.
Selection criteria for the NGCA All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in at least 50% (Division I) or 66% (Division II & III) of the college’s regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.
