USF Women's Golf Team Competes at OSU / Shanico Invitational
Sept. 16, 2002 On September 16 and 17, 2002, the Lady Dons are competing at the Shanico Invitational hosted by the Oregon State University, at the Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis. The tournament begins Monday, September 16 with 36 holes, followed by the final 18 on Tuesday. A COMPETITIVE FIELD: There will be 18 teams competing in the Shanico Invitational, including Pacific-10 Conference members, California, UCLA, Oregon and Washington State. The remaining field includes Boise State, BYU, UC Irvine, College of Charleston, Colorado, Eastern Washington, Hawaii, Idaho, Long Beach State, Portland State, USF, San Jose State and Weber State. LAST YEAR: California and Arizona tied for the 1st place, with a score of 882, but Cal won the tournament championship through a tiebreaker with the lowest score carded by the Cal fifth player. USF finished 5th with a total score of 903. Susie Laing was the Lady Dons top finisher with 217 (72-71-74). USF SHANICO TOURNAMENT HISTORY: This is the third consecutive season the Lady Dons have competed in the Shanico, hosted by Oregon State. In September 2000, USF finished 2nd. Lisa Chen was runner-up with 221 (70-74-77). Chen's 70 in the opening round is her career low. Susie Laing finished 7th with 223 (71-74-78). BACK TO THE NORTHWEST: USF had coach Sara Range played college golf for the Beavers from 1991 to 1995 and began her coaching career on the Beaver's staff in 1995 before coming to the Hilltop.
