USF Women's Golf Finishes Third at Southern California Intercollegiate
Sept. 19, 2001 (Calimesa, CA) - USF women's golf shot a final round 312 to place third in the 2001 Southern California Intercollegiate at the PGA of Southern California on Tuesday. The Lady Dons could not hold off a charge by tournament host Long Beach State, who entered the final round trailing USF by a stroke. The 49ers shot 305 for a runner-up finish in the event behind #11 Pepperdine, who fired a 293 for the championship. Junior Susie Laing was the top finisher for USF with a share of fourth place after firing a 76 in the final round for 150. Sophomore Jordan Auten placed tied for seventh after shooting a 76 for 153. It is the second top-10 finish for both Laing and Auten. USF's third place finish marked the fourth consecutive top-five finish in regular season tournaments for the Lady Dons. San Francisco returns to action when they travel to the Lady Vandal Fall Invite in Moscow, ID Oct. 1-2. After being stranded in Fort Collins, CO after the National Tragedy on Sept. 11, USF women's golf drove to Las Vegas and then Los Angeles on Sunday to compete in the Southern California Intercollegiate.
