USF Men's & Women's Golf Teams Set to Compete at the Giustina Memorial Classic

Sept. 21, 2008

USF men's and women's golf team will compete in the 2008 Giustina Memorial Classic, hosted by Oregon State at Trysting Tree Golf Club, beginning Monday, September 22. The tournament format pairs the men's and women's teams from each school in a combined competition against the other participating schools. Teams will play in foursomes (two men, two women).

It will be the second tournament of the season for both squads. The men hosted the 2008 San Francisco Intercollegiate at the Olympic Club, September 8-9. USF had two teams in the successful inaugural event, highlighted by fourth place finishes by freshman Ji Hwan Park and junior Chris Cunningham.

USF's women's team got the season underway at the Ptarmigan/Ram Fall Classic. The Dons finished fifth in a competitive field and were paced by junior Danielle Cvitanov, who placed sixth after firing a six-under 66 in the final round.

TOURNAMENT FIELD: Oregon State, Oregon, Washington State, Fresno State, Idaho, Nevada, Portland, San Francisco, Boise State and Sacramento State.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT: The 54-hole tournament will consist of 36 continuous holes played on Monday and leaders will start last on Tuesday for the final 18. Tee time for Tuesday is set for 7:45-9:45 a.m. on holes one and 10.

ABOUT THE GIUSTINA CLASSIC: The memorial tournament is to honor the life of Natale B. "Nat" Giustina, who played a fundamental role in the creation of Trysting Tree Golf Club. The Oregon State alumnus was a prominent figure in the OSU community, serving on the OSU Alumni Association board and the Board of Intercollegiate Athletics.
