(Corvallis, OR) - USF fired a 299 in the opening round of the 2001 Oregon State Shanico Invitational at Trysting Tree Golf Course to secure sixth place in the three-day event. For the Lady Dons it was their second consecutive round in the 290's, following a program record 294 in the final round at the Lady Vandal Fall Invitational in Moscow, ID last weekend.

The Lady Dons find themselves one stroke out of the top-five behind the host Beavers, who shot 298. Bay Area rival Cal shot an impressive two-under 286 to seize the early lead, followed by Arizona (289), Stanford (295), Brigham Young (296) and Oregon State round out the top-five teams.

Junior Susie Laing continued her solid play for San Francisco, carding an even-par 72, followed by freshman Mariko Shimozaki, who fired a 74 in her first round as a collegian. Junior Lyndsey Devenish shot 76, while juniors Lisa Chen and Jorda Auten each added 77 in opening round action.

USF returns to action Tuesday in second round action at Trysting Tree Golf Course. The Lady Dons captured runner-up honors in the 2000 Shanico Invitational.
