Mark Carr is entering his fourth season as the head coach of the University of San Francisco women’s soccer program. In his three years on the Hilltop, Carr has transformed a struggling program into a rising threat. In 2009, the Dons’ record of 7-7-5 was the best the program had earned since 2004, making them the 23rd most improved team in the country, according to Somis Sports.
Previous to USF, Carr spent four highly successful seasons as an assistant coach at UCLA, helping the Bruins to four consecutive Pac-10 titles and four College Cup berths, highlighted by two Championship Finals.
During his tenure in Westwood, the Bruins recorded an 81-15-5 overall record between 2003-06, while producing nine All-Americans. UCLA also owned a sparkling 18-4 mark in NCAA Tournament action. In 2005, Carr’s Bruins squared off against WCC powerhouse Portland in the national title game.
In addition to his coaching appointed at USF, Carr has served as a Regional Assistant Coach for the 93 and 97 age group teams. He is also a club coach with Marin FC helping numerous teams.
In addition to his coaching duties at UCLA, Carr served as a Regional Staff Coach at the 2006 Girl's U-14-U-16 Region IV Camp in Boise. Carr is also active in the Southern California club circuit, coaching the Force Soccer Club (Redondo Beach) where he served as the head coach for the Girl's 11 and 14 teams, leading both to first place division showings.
Carr graduated from Bournemouth University in his native England in 2001 with a B.A. in International Marketing. A decorated amateur player, Carr competed on the England School's Representative Team (1996) and played for the Charlton Athletic Youth Team (1995-97). Mark and his wife Caroline were married in the summer of 2009 and welcomed their first child, Ella Catherine, in March of 2010.
