Mark Carr begins his third season as the head coach of the University of San Francisco Women's Soccer program in 2009. Carr spent four highly successful seasons as an assistant coach at UCLA, helping the Bruins to four consecutive Pac-10 titles and four College Cup berths, highlighted by two Championship Finals. Carr, who is just the fourth head coach in program history, looks forward to being competitive in the West Coast Conference, which has produced three of the last eight NCAA Division I Champions. Carr earned his first victory on the Hilltop versus Conference and Bay Area foe Saint Mary's (10/14) 2-1. The Dons then won the very next game over Gonzaga (10/19) with their first shutout of the year, 3-0. Carr continued to improve in his second season, doubling the Dons win total. USF won their first two games, and were off to a 2-0 start for the first time since 2003. During Carr's tenure in Westwood, the Bruins posted an 81-15-5 overall record from 2003-06 and produced nine All-Americans. In addition, UCLA owned a sparkling 18-4 record in the NCAA Tournament. No stranger to the WCC, Carr's Bruins squared off against the University of Portland in 2005 in the national title game in a match won by the Pilots. In addition to his coaching duties at UCLA, Carr served as a Regional Staff Coach at the 2006 Girl's U-14-U-16 Region IV Camp in Boise. Carr is also active in the Southern California club circuit, coaching the Force Soccer Club (Redondo Beach) where he served as the head coach for the Girl's 11 and 14 teams, leading both to first place division showings. Carr graduated from Bournemouth University in his native England in 2001 with a B.A. in International Marketing. A decorated amateur player, Carr competed on the England School's Representative Team (1996) and played for the Charlton Athletic Youth Team (1995-97). San Francisco looks to benefit from Carr's extensive resume of postseason success as it hunts for its elusive inaugural NCAA berth. The Dons welcome 10 newcomers to the Hilltop, joining 16 veterens hoping to lead this team to a WCC Championship. |
