Dons Fall In Overtime At Pacific, 2-1

Aug. 28, 2005

Final Stats

The USF women's soccer team fell in overtime for the second straight time, this time at Pacific in steamy Stockton 2-1. The Dons dropped to 0-2 on the year while the Tigers improved to 2-0.

USF took the lead early in the 47th minute when freshman Jessica Gaskin placed a shot into the upper left corner on a restart after a Pacific foul.

Pacific tied it when Carla Vellutini found the back of the net on an unassisted one-on-one play . Vellutini was able to dribble past Dons' 'keeper Katie Hodgson giving herself a shot at an open net.

With the game tied at one after regulation the Tigers' looked towards their offensive captain, junior Carmen Padilla for a spark. Padilla responded in the third minute of overtime, netting the Tigers' game-winner on a breakaway goal that was setup by a clearance punt by sophomore 'keeper Jaime Souza. The goal was Padilla's first of the 2005 season and 16th of her career.

USF, who hosts Fresno State on Friday night, was outshot 20-13 in the contest.
