USF Women's Soccer Falls to Colorado 4-1

Aug. 31, 2008

Final Stats

(Boulder, CO) - San Francisco managed a goal in the final half to avoid being shut out as the Dons (2-1-0) fall to Colorado 4-1 in non-conference soccer action at Prentup Field on Sunday afternoon. USF still holds a 2-1 lead in the series over the Buffaloes (2-1-1).

Junior forward Kristina Hall earned her first goal of the season in the 66th minute, scoring off a deflection and beating the goalkeeper into the upper right corner.

That was all the offense could do after being held to just five shots through the entire contest. Freshman forward Nicole Moore had three shots, two on goal, while senior defender Alexis Mielke had one on goal.

Dons goalies Anika Steig and Kelly Pohle each played a half, with Steig getting four saves, and Pohle two. The team was also credited with a save.

"I felt after we got the first half out the way, we began to play with a lot more confidence. We created some chances, one off the crossbar before Hall hit a 30 yarder into the top corner. We just have prepare well for next weekend," said head coach Mark Carr.

Colorado got off 26 shots in the contest, scoring twice in each half. Senior midfielder Nikki Keller started the scoring with an unassisted shot at 22:08 that was deflected off a Dons defender. At 39:06, senior forward Amber Bettenhausen scored off a cross from senior midfielder Alex Cousins.

A minute and 23 seconds into the second half, the Buffs struck again, this time from junior forward Nikki Marshall, who took a cross from freshman midfielder Kate Russell. To cap Colorado's scoring, senior forward Gianna DeSaverio scored at 55:58 off assists from Keller and Marshall.
