(San Francisco, CA) - San Francisco women's soccer out-shot Eastern Kentucky 14-7 in the match, but didn't convert on their chances and fell to the Colonels (2-1-1) 1-0 in non-conference action at Negoesco Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Dons fall to 2-2-1 with the loss. EKU's Heather Bruce beat a Don to the ball, and crossed it into the upper right hand corner of the goal in the 49th minute. Don's freshman goalkeeper Sarah Garland jumped, but the ball sailed over her head into the net. In her Dons debut, Garland also earned a save in the second half. Senior goalie Anika Steig had two saves in the first half. Freshman forward Nicole Moore led the Dons offense with four shots, two on goal. Her shot at the 29 minute mark was USF's most legitimate scoring chance. Moore pounded the ball into the left side of the goal box, but the Colonels Stephanie Lynch dove for the ball, saving a goal for her team. Senior midfielder Katherine Kimure touched the ball twice, as did freshman forward Kelli Woodard (one on goal). Also getting two shots with one on goal was freshman midfielder Lauren Abarca. Freshmen Alyssa Simbahon, Angela Vuona, and Megan Bucci each added a shot on the afternoon. "I'm disappointed in the result," said head coach Mark Carr. "At this level you must put in two performances on Friday and Sunday. If you can't do it, you lose games. We only played for the last 15 minutes today."
USF heads to Stockton, CA next weekend to participate in the Pacific Fall Classic. They will meet Tennessee-Martin at 4:00 PM on Friday and Hawai'i at 10:00 AM on Sunday. |
