USF Women's Soccer Shutout By Gauchos

Junior midfielder Jen Codington scored the only goal of the match at the 41:09 mark and Santa Barbara's defense did the rest, shutting out USF 1-0 Saturday night in non-conference soccer action at Negoesco Stadium. USF (2-2) had several scoring opportunities and held a 14-8 edge in shots, including a 7-2 advantage in the second half, but were unable to convert against the Gauchos (2-3).
USF was unable to solve Santa Barbara's senior goalkeeper, Mary Gleason, who earned the shutout after recording eight saves, while facing 14 shots. Junior midfielder Kirsteen Buchan led the way offensively for San Francisco with four shots, three on goal, while sophomore forward Alana Healy fired three shots, two on goal. Junior forward Meghan Daly added three attempts and junior midfielder Caty Harris fired a pair of shots.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jennifer Orantes (1-2) suffered the loss for USF, allowing the lone goal of the contest. Orantes recorded four saves on eight shots.
Freshman forward Jen Borich assisted on the Codington's goal and added a pair of shots. Freshman forward Krystal Sandez fired three to pace the Gauchos.
San Francisco returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 27 when they host the Highlanders of UC Riverside. Match time is at 4:00 PM at Negoesco Stadium.
