USF Women's Soccer Falls 6-1 at #21 Stanford
Sept. 24, 2003
(Palo Alto, CA) - USF women's soccer suffered a 6-1 non-conference loss at #21 Stanford Wednesday night at Maloney Field in non-conference action. The Dons (3-6-0) battled could not overcome three quick scoring strikes in the first 20 minutes of the contest as the Cardinal (4-3-1) awoke out of an offensive funk with a vengeance.
Junior defender Laura Ott scored the lone goal for San Francisco at the 28:25 mark off a corner kick assist from junior midfielder Annika Schmidt, but the Cardinal answered again before the intermission, capitalizing on a USF defensive lapse. For Ott it was her second goal of the season, while the assist for Schmidt was her team-leading sixth.
San Francisco struggled offensively, firing just three shots - all in the first half - while Stanford fired 18.
USF returns to action Friday when they host Cal State Northridge. Match time against the Matadors is scheduled for 5:00 PM and will be the first game of a soccer double-header at Negoesco with the USF men's team, who take on Columbia at 7:00 PM.
