(San Francisco) - Freshman forward Chelsea Hunt erupted for a hat trick as San Francisco shut out visiting Cal State Northridge 4-0 in non-conference women's soccer action Friday night at Negoesco Stadium. With the win, USF (4-6-0) claims their second straight win against the Matadors (2-4-2) after winning at Northridge 3-2 in overtime last season.

Hunt came out blazing for the Dons, scoring her first goal just 1:42 into the contest on a breakaway goal, beating sophomore Matador keeper Jen Jasper left. Hunt scored again at the 26:20 mark off a through ball by junior midfielder Annika Schmidt and a cross from freshman forward Shuree Hyatt.

Hyatt tallied her team-leading sixth goal of the season at 41:12 after taking a feed from Schmidt. It was the second multi-assist day of the season for Schmidt, who leads the team with eight on the year.

After just missing on a shot in the closing minutes of the first period, Hunt found the back of the net for the third time at the 72:18 mark, heading in a corner kick from freshman forward Kate Nelson. The three tallies give Hunt five goals on the season and the hat trick is the first for USF women's soccer since former standout Kelli Bryant (1992-95) tallied three in a 7-0 rout of San Diego Oct. 7, 1994.

Senior goalkeeper Jen Orantes (4-6-0) recorded her fourth shutout of the season and collected her 10th career win between the pipes for San Francisco. Orantes made four saves on four shots. Jasper suffered the loss for the Matadors, making six saves on 15 shots. The Dons attempted a season-high 12 corner kicks in the contest.

USF head coach Pamela Kalinoski is pleased with her team's effort offensively and defensively.

"This is a great win for us. I am pleased with the way we responded to the lessons learned in a tough loss at Stanford. It's a tremendous accomplishment for Chelsea Hunt. I am happy with the way we applied pressure throughout and I though Shuree Hyatt and Annika also did a nice job for us. Hopefully this will give us momentum as we head into action at Sacramento State next week," Kalinoski said.
