Women's Soccer Downed By Titans 7-2
Sept. 30, 2001
(Fullerton, CA) - Cal State Fullerton's Michele Bannister recorded a hat-trick to help the Titans roll to a 7-2 victory against USF in non-conference women's soccer action Sunday at Titan Stadium. The Dons (3-3-0) got goals from junior midfielder Jodie Tanga (2) and junior midfielder Stacey Caro (3), but it was not enough against Fullerton's (5-4-0) offensive explosion.
USF struck first on a goal from Tanga at 13:40 off a through ball from junior midfielder Caty Harris. For Tanga it was her second goal in as many games. Fullerton would stampede back scoring four unanswered goals in a little more than 30 minutes of action. Caro scored her third goal in two matches at 51:43 off a feed from freshman defender Katie Gabrielli.
Remarkably, USF had more scoring chances and held an 11-10 shot advantage in the first half and a 21-17 margin for the game, but just could not convert on Titan goalie Laura Janke, who recorded 10 saves on the afternoon. Sophomore goalkeeper Jennifer Orantes had a tough day for USF, allowing seven goals on 17 shots and recorded four saves in the loss.
USF opens the 2001 West Coast Conference soccer season on the road when they travel to Southern California to face the University of San Diego on Friday, Oct. 5. Game time is at 5:00 PM at Torero Stadium.
