Women's Soccer Blanks Sacramento State 2-0
Oct. 9, 2001
(Sacramento) - USF traveled to the state capital today for a match against Sacramento State in a contest postponed due to the national tragedy on Sept. 11. The Dons got goals from junior midfielders Stacey Caro and Kirsteen Buchan to take a 2-0 victory against the Hornets to improve their overall record to 4-4-1 on the season. Sacramento State fell to 3-6-1.
Caro continued her goal-scoring binge early in the contest, striking on a deflection at the 9:17 mark in the first half. For Caro it was her third tally in two games and her team-leading seventh of the season - all coming in the last five contests.
Buchan added another unassisted goal at the 57:12 mark to seal the contest for USF. The Dons held a 13-10 advantage in shots for the match, including a 7-3 edge in the first half. Junior forward Meghan Daly led the way for San Francisco with five shots in the game.
Sophomore goalkeeper Stephanie Beall collected her third win of the season and second shutout of 2001 and recorded three saves while facing 10 Sacramento State shots.
USF returns to action Friday, Oct. 12 when they continue West Coast Conference action at #7 Santa Clara. Match time is at 5:30 PM at Buck Shaw Stadium.
