(San Francisco, CA) - USF women's soccer cut the lead by half with a second period goal, but couldn't come all the way back as the Dons (5-6-2) fell to Seattle University 2-1 in non-conference action at Negoesco Stadium on Friday night. SU (7-2-3) out shot the Dons 15-9 in the match. Freshman forward Molly Hall earned her first collegiate goal in the second half, keeping the Dons from being shutout. Freshman defender Alyssa Simbahon shot a corner kick to sophomore defender Lauren Maris, who popped the ball up in front of the goal. Hall connected on a header, pushing it into the upper left corner over the head of Redhawks goalie Madison Goverde. In the first period, Seattle's Jamie Coe earned her team leading sixth goal after a collision with Don's junior goalkeeper Kelly Pohle. Coe managed to get a touch from the eight-foot box before Pohle could get back into position. Kara Kuttler earned the assist on the play. Seattle scored its second goal in the second half when Kuttler also got a touch from the eight-foot box, into the left hand corner of the goal. Pohle had eight saves on the night, Goverde had six. Dons' senior midfielder Katherine Kimure led the Dons with four shots, two on goal. Freshman forward Kelli Woodard had two shots on goal in the match. Hall, freshman forward Nicole Moore and freshman defender Kallie Caldwell each had one in the game.
"I was disappointed in the result tonight," said head coach Mark Carr. "We need to compete for the whole game, not just in certain periods. I know this group will bounce back for Saint Mary's." USF begins West Coast Conference play on Sunday, meeting Saint Mary's College in Moraga. Kick off is set for noon. |
