Oct. 12, 2001
(Santa Clara, CA) - Five Santa Clara players scored goals and the fourth-ranked Broncos outshot USF 35-6 en route to a 5-0 shutout win Friday night at Buck Shaw Stadium in West Coast Conference women's soccer action. USF (4-5-1, 0-2 WCC) held the Broncos (10-1-0, 1-0) to just one goal in the first half, but not without some luck.
After facing a barrage of 18 shots in the first half, San Francisco's defense simply wore down in the second frame. Santa Clara's offense did not as the Broncos punched another 17 shots in the final 45 minutes. The Broncos scored three goals in less than five minutes, beginning at the 77:43 mark.
Junior forward Meghan Daly led the way for USF with three shots. Sophomore goalkeeper Jennifer Orantes suffered the loss after facing a season-high 35 shots. Orantes made five saves on the night.
San Francisco returns to action when they hot the Vikings of Portland State in non-conference action on Sunday. Match time is at 1:00 PM at Negoesco Stadium.
