USF Women's Soccer Blanked 8-0 at #5 Portland
Oct. 19, 2003
(Portland, OR) - San Francisco held #5 Portland scoreless for the first 35 minutes, but the defending national champions erupted for three goals in the final 10 minutes and cruised to a 8-0 victory in West Coast Conference women's soccer action Sunday afternoon in front of 2,522 fans at Merlo Field. USF (5-10, 1-2 WCC) battled, but could not capitalize against the Pilots (13-2, 3-0 WCC).
USF trailed 3-0 at the intermission and Portland tacked on four more in the second half to record their 10th consecutive victory.
Freshman forward Chelsea Hunt had the best scoring chance for the Dons midway through the first half, but her header sailed wide of the bar in the then scoreless contest. Junior midfielders Stephanie Gray and Cami Hernandez each fired a shot apiece, as did freshman forward Kate Nelson.
Senior goalkeeper Jennifer Orantes allowed four goals on 18 shots and recorded five saves. Freshman goalkeeper Elizabeth Everett allowed four goals on seven shots and made a pair of saves.
USF returns to WCC action when they host defending national runner-up Santa Clara Friday October 24 at Negoesco Stadium. Opening kick is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
