USF Women's Soccer Falls to Santa Clara 3-0

(Santa Clara, CA) - San Francisco women's soccer fell to Bay Area and West Coast Conference rival Santa Clara 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at Buck Shaw Stadium. The Dons fall to 5-9-2, 0-3-0 WCC, while the Broncos are now 4-9-3, 1-1-1 WCC.

All three goals were scored in the first half off junior goalkeeper Kelly Pohle. At 15:57, Broncos' junior forward Katherine Reynolds scored off a penalty kick. Just over three minutes later, at 19:11, Reynolds scored her second goal of the game, a shot into the far corner off a cross from junior midfielder Hayley Siegel. The final goal of the match was scored at 39:16 when freshman forward Jenny Laponte touched it in after a cross from Reynolds.

SCU out shot the Dons 13-5 in the match, and held an 8-2 corner kick advantage.

Freshman defender Abbey Kaufman, freshman forward Kelli Woodard, sophomore defender Lauren Maris, freshman defender Megan Bucci, and freshman forward Molly Hall each had a shot in the match.

Pohle had two saves in the game to bring her team leading saves total to 67. Pohle played 76:34 minutes in goal and senior Katie Hodgson played the final 13:26 but did not record a save.

Three Santa Clara keepers had one save a piece.

USF returns to action Friday, October 24 hosting Portland at Negoesco Stadium. Kick-off is set for 5:00 PM.
