Oct. 21, 2001
(San Francisco) - Loyola Marymount got a goal from senior midfielder Amanda Shellenberger at the 55:14 mark to secure a 1-0 shutout win against USF in West Coast Conference women's soccer action Sunday at Negoesco Stadium. USF (6-6-1, 0-3 WCC) had opportunities in both halves, but could not penetrate the defense of the Lions (5-7-1, 1-1 WCC).
Loyola Marymount held a 12-8 edge in shots in the contest, including a 7-2 advantage in the first half, although the Dons actually spent most of the first 45 minutes in the Lion's end. San Francisco enjoyed a slight 6-5 shots lead in the second frame, but to no avail. Junior forward Meghan Daly was the only USF player to record more than one attempt and finished the contest with a pair of shots.
Junior goalkeeper Elizabeth Skahl collected the shutout victory for the Lions and made four saves. Sophomore goalkeeper Stephanie Beall suffered the loss for San Francisco and made four saves on the evening.
USF hosts the Wolfpack of Nevada-Reno Wednesday in non-conference action. Game time is at 3:00 PM at Negoesco Stadium.
