USF Women's Soccer Falls To Loyola Marymout 1-0
Oct. 23, 2005
(San Francisco) - Another extended game for the Dons (4-12-2, 2-3-0 WCC) didn't go their way as they fell to Loyola Marymout (5-8-4, 1-3-1 WCC) 1-0 in double overtime.
A lot of back and forth between the teams resulted in no score after regulation. Lion's senior forward Lori Sims had six shots for LMU, four of which were on goal. Senior forward Kelly Lewandowski had four shots, three on goal including the game winner against Don freshman goalie Katie Hodgson.
Four minutes into the second overtime, amid a melee in the USF box, Lewandowski managed to get foot on the ball three yards out after a short cross from senior defender Jennifer Horn.
For the Dons, junior forward Chelsea Hunt led USF with four shots, one of which went just off the cross bar in the 84th minute. Hodgson continued to pad her saves total, adding eight in Sunday's game.
Head coach Pamela Kalinoski spoke about the match.
"I think it was unfortunate, it could have gone either way. LMU was hungry to get their first WCC win and I knew they were going to come out ready to go. The girls battled hard in the game but we let it get away from us. In the WCC you have to come ready to play when you get on the field. One mistake cost us that game but we had our chances. It came down to inches as far as making a difference and we came up short today," Kalinoski said.
The Dons return to action for their only game of the week on Sunday, October 30 against WCC foe Portland. The game, at Negoesco Stadium, begins at 1:00 PM.
