USF Women's Soccer Blanks Wolf Pack, 2-0
Oct. 24, 2001
(San Francisco) - Junior forward Meghan Daly tallied her fourth goal of the season, while senior forward Heidi Prestegard converted a penalty kick as USF shutout visiting Nevada-Reno Wednesday 2-0 in non-conference women's soccer action at Negoesco Stadium. San Francisco (7-6-1) dominated play, especially in the first half, holding a 14-1 shot advantage against the Wolf Pack (0-14-1). For the match, the Dons held a 19-4 edge in shots.
After dictating the tempo for the entire first half, USF finally got on the scoreboard when Daly cleared a deflection off a Nevada-Reno player and beat the keeper into the open net from 10 yards out at the 24:55 mark. For Daly, it was her second game-winner of the season.
USF would next get on the board when Prestegard was fouled in the box for a penalty kick. Prestegard beat freshman Wolf Pack keeper Jessica Gregg right.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jennifer Orantes collected her first shutout win of the season and made two saves while facing four shots.
USF returns to action when they travel to the Northwest for a Friday West Coast Conference contest against Gonzaga in Spokane on Friday. Match time is at 2:00 PM at Martin Field. The Dons then travel to the Rose City for a Sunday game against #5 Portland. Match time is at 1:00 PM at Merlo Field.
