Women's Soccer Drops Game to No. 2 Portland

(Portland, OR) - San Francisco women's soccer fell to No. 2 Portland 8-0 in West Coast Conference soccer action on Sunday afternoon. The Dons fall to 6-4-5, 1-3-0 WCC on the season, and the Pilots, a perennial NCAA Tournament team, improve to 16-1-0, 5-0-0 WCC. UP scored four goals each in the first and second halves. At 13:40, Sophie Schmidt placed one into the upper right corner from eight yards out after a pass from Jessica Tsao. Five minutes later, Danielle Foxhoven beat senior goalkeeper Kelly Pohle to the left corner of the goal from 15 yards out on a pass from Schmidt. In the 32nd minute, Foxhoven made it 3-0 on a penalty kick. Then, three minutes later, Foxhoven scored once more after a pass from Kendra Chandhoke. Five minutes into the second quarter, Foxhoven made it 5-0 off a slide kick into the upper left corner from 15 yards. Tsao earned her second assist on the play. At 63:25, Halley Kreminski, with an assist from Foxhoven, scored off a direct kick from six yards out. Kreminski scored again, this time with help from Taylor Brooke, to make it 7-0. Kreminski then scored the final blow at 79:38 after a corner kick from Charney Burk. Portland held a 30-1 shot advantage, and a 10-0 corner kick lead. Sophomore defender Kelli Woodard had the lone shot for USF. Pohle had four saves in 70 minutes, and sophomore Sarah Garland had one save in 19 minutes. "We played one of the top teams in the nation, and they were impressive," said head coach Mark Carr. "If that team is not at the final four, I would be shocked. We need to get rested, healthy, and be focused for next weekend."
USF returns to WCC action next Friday at LMU. Kick off is set for 3:00 PM. |
