USF Blanks Bulldogs In WCC Women's Soccer

SPOKANE, Wash. - USF senior forward Heidi Prestegard scored two first-half goals, including the game-winner giving the Dons their first West Coast Conference victory in a 3-0 shutout of Gonzaga Friday at Martin Field. With the victory, San Francisco (8-6-1, 1-3-0 WCC) posts their highest win tally since the 1997 campaign when USF recorded 11 wins. Gonzaga (0-12-1, 0-4-0) remains winless on the year.
Prestegard tallied her first goal unassisted in the first four minutes, her second goal followed at 40:51 putting the Dons up 2-0 at the half. It is the second multi-goal game of the season for Prestegard, who tallied her fourth and fifth goals of the season giving her 16 career goals on the Hilltop.
Junior defender Kristin Gordon sealed the Dons win with a goal at 59:17 on a free-kick pass assist from Katie Mingst. With the scoring strike, Gordon recorded her first career goal at USF.
USF held a 17-14 shot advantage over the Bulldogs. Gonzaga goalkeeper Brooke Longacre suffered the loss after allowing three goals while collecting eight saves. Sophomore keepers Jennifer Orantes and Stephanie Beall recorded the shared shutout win and each made four saves in 45 minutes. The shutout is the third blanking turned in by USF keepers in their last five matches and second consecutive after a 2-0 win against Nevada-Reno.
San Francisco returns to action in their Northwest swing when they travel to the Rose City for a Sunday contest against the Portland Pilots. Match time is at 1:00 PM at Merlo Field.
