(San Francisco, CA) - San Francisco women's soccer fell to West Coast Conference rival Loyola Marymount 2-0 at Negoesco Field on Sunday afternoon. The Dons (5-12-2, 0-6-0 WCC) celebrated the career's of five seniors prior to the kick off with the Lions (9-6-3, 4-2-0 WCC).

USF fell behind 1-0 at about the 18 minute mark when defender Amanda Lernor beat senior goalie Katie Hodgson to the right off a rebound. Midfielder Lacey Bartels was credited with the assist off the corner. The Lions added an insurance goal in the second half when Kristen Garcia headed the ball over senior goalie Anika Steig's reach. Forward Lily Sorentino was credited with the assist.

LMU out shot the Dons 13-8 in the match, but USF held the corner kick advantage 6-3.

Senior midfielder Katherine Kimure led all Dons with five shots, and increases her team leading total to 48. Senior midfielder Stephanie Randall, junior forward Samantha Brand, and freshman midfielder Kallie Caldwell each added one shot. Senior forward Alexis Mielke got the start in her final home game.

Hodgson got the start and played the entire first half, recording four saves. Steig played the second half, recording two saves.

"This was an awesome day for our seniors," said head coach Mark Carr. "It was important for us to recognize them for all their hard work and commitment to this program. I'm glad the seniors got to play and put forth a good effort. As for the team, we're close. We're building and we just need to work on the little details."

 

 

USF returns to action next Saturday in Pepperdine for their final game of the 2008 season. Kick-off is set for 1:00 PM in Malibu, CA.
