#12 Gaels Hang On For 3-2 Overtime WCC Women's Soccer Win Against USF

(San Francisco) - Junior midfielder Caty Harris posted the first multi-goal game of her career, but it was not enough as sophomore forward Shauna Rech scored in the 94th minute of overtime to secure a 3-2 victory for 12th-ranked Saint Mary's against USF in West Coast Conference soccer action Friday at Negoesco Stadium. USF (9-10-1, 2-5-0 WCC) scored first on the first of two free kick goals by Harris, the first coming at the 4:52 from 30 yards out.
Saint Mary's (14-2-2, 4-2 WCC) also got a multi-goal effort from freshman forward Katie Frattone, who knotted the score at 1-1 at the 41:53 mark and then scored the go-ahead goal at 53:45. Her second tally came on a volley off the bar on an errant penalty kick at 53:45.
Down 2-1, Harris struck again from 25 yards out for her fifth goal of the season at 77:44, sending the contest into sudden death overtime, in the final regular season match for both teams.
Saint Mary's owned a 17-9 advantage in shots, including a 9-5 edge in the first half. Sophomore goalkeeper Jennifer Orantes suffered the loss for the Dons, allowing three goals on 17 shots, while collecting seven saves. Junior goalkeeper Ruth Montgomery earned her 14th victory of the season allowing two goals Montgomery recorded one save as the Dons became only the second team to score more than one goal against the Gaels this season.
Harris and junior forward Meghan Daly each fired four shots in the season finale for USF. Senior forward Heidi Prestegard also turned a strong performance in her final game in the Green and Gold.
