San Francisco women's soccer celebrated its 2009 season with their annual banquet at Fior di Italia on Sunday (2/20) evening. The team's accomplishments were noted, seniors were honored, and awards were handed out after a delicious meal.
Athletics Director Debra Gore-Mann started off the night speaking about the seniors and the impact they had on the team and the athletic department. Head coach Mark Carr then took over and spoke about the 2009 team on the field and his goals for the future. After a highlight video made my assistant coach Maite Zabala, awards were handed out to the top players from last fall.
Sophomore Molly Hall was named Offensive MVP after a stellar year in the front. Hall had three goals and two assists on the year. The Defensive MVP award went to junior defender Ashley O'Brien. The UCONN transfer had a goal and two assists, while providing great defense in the back.
The overall Team MVP award was shared by seniors Kristina Hall and Kelly Pohle. As a midfielder, Hall led the team with four goals and added an assist. Pohle had 70 saves in 1,730 minutes in goal.
Defender Ashlyn Mazur earned the Freshman of the Year award for her great defense in the back. Mazur scored one goal and added an assist. Rounding out the awards for the night, sophomore forward Megan Bucci earned the Most Improved Player of the Year. In 2009 she had one goal and two assists.
"It was a great evening to celebrate our 2009 season," said Carr. "It was good to see everyone and with the success we had, we are looking forward to the Spring."
