USF TACKLES THE BULLDOGS: San Francisco kicks off the 2008 regular season when it welcomes Fresno State to the Hilltop. USF women's soccer is the first Dons athletic team to open play during the fall season. The Dons dropped a tough 1-0 decision in the Central Valley last season as Fresno State's Ali Sill scored in the 45th minute in the only tally of the contest. Junior goalkeeper Katie Hodgson was solid for the Dons in goal, making eight saves on 16 shots. DONS & BULLDOGS - THE SERIES: The all-time series between USF and Fresno State is tied at 3-3. Fresno State took a 1-0 decision last season, good for a two game winning streak against the Dons, dating to 2006. San Francisco posted a 3-0 blanking in 2005 - the last time the two teams squared off at Negoesco Stadium. Chelsea Hunt scored twice for the Dons with a strike in each half and Stephanie Gray scored on a penalty kick after the intermission. Kelly Pohle made a pair of saves to preserve the shutout. FRESNO STATE SCOUTING REPORT: ROCKY MOUNTAIN HIGH: After tackling the Bulldogs, San Francisco travels to Colorado for matches at Northern Colorado and Colorado, beginning Friday, August 29 against the Bears. USF then battles the Buffs in a Sunday matinee in Boulder. The Dons then begin a two-match homestand against Nevada Friday, September 5. HEAD COACH Mark Carr: USF head coach Mark Carr enters his second season at the helm of the Dons women's soccer program and looks to make inroads in the elite West Coast Conference. After experiencing growing pains with a young team, Carr welcomes in his first full recruiting class, rated No. 30 in the West by SoccerBuzz.com.
