The Winning Dons are Home for Two

The Week Ahead - San Francisco (7-3-3: 1-0-0 WCC) will look to build upon their momentum of the last few weeks as the Dons enter this week's action with a four game winning streak. USF will play host to two conference rivals as the San Diego Toreros (7-6-0: 1-0-0 WCC) travel to San Francisco for a Friday evening match at Negoesco Stadium at 7:00 pm. On Sunday, October 17 at 1:00 pm, the Santa Clara Broncos (7-4-2-: 0-1-0 WCC) will travel south on the 101 to face the USF Dons in their second game of the week.
The Week that Was - USF played two games last week and won them both, as they defeated the Aggies of UC Davis by a 5-0 score on Friday night. Two days later, the Dons traveled to Moraga, California and beat the Saint Mary's Gaels by a 1-0 margin.
Highlights of the UC Davis game included a hatrick by sophomore forward Shuree Hyatt, which gave her the team lead in goals with six and points with 15. Senior goalkeeper Stephanie Beall recorded her fourth shutout of the season, and the 11th of her USF career.
On Sunday, the Dons found themselves in a very close match against the Gaels of Saint Mary's. With just under 16 minutes remaining in the game and the score tied at 0-0, sophomore forward Chelsea Hunt was able to control the Annika Schmidt pass and boot the ball past the sprawling Gael's goalkeeper to give USF a 1-0 lead. From there, the Dons were able to hold onto the lead and win their first conference game of the season by the 1-0 score. Furthermore, It was the Dons first defeat of Saint Mary's since the 1997 season (7 matches).
The Following Week - USF will travel to the Los Angeles area as the Dons continue their WCC portion of their schedule. On Friday, October 22 at 4:00 pm, USF will face Loyola Marymount at Sullivan Field. Two days later, the Dons will travel to Malibu, CA. to face the Pepperdine Waves in a 1:00 pm start at Tari Frahm Rokus Field.
Ranked Regionally - In the newly released soccer rankings according to the soccerbuzz.com, USF earned a 14th place ranking in the west regional conference. For USF, it is their first time this season cracking the top 15. Also cracking the top 15 were five other WCC opponents, including Santa Clara, San Diego, Pepperdine, Loyola Marymount and Portland.
Player Notes:
Chelsea Hunt - Chelsea is in the midst of a breakout 2004 sophomore season. After 13 games, Hunt has scored six goals, which is good enough for first place tie in goals scored with teammate Shuree Hyatt for the USF goal scorers. Her 14 points on the season places her second overall on team scoring, behind Shuree Hyatt. Furthermore, Chelsea is ranked in seventh place amongst WCC scoring leaders with 14 points.
This season Chelsea has recorded four game winning goals, which gives her six game winners through her two-year USF career. Hunt is now tied for third in USF history in that category. Hunt is now two game winning goals away from second place all-time in USF women's soccer history.
Shuree Hyatt - Is currently leading USF in scoring with 15 points (6G, 3A). Hyatt recently recorded her first collegiate hatrick in a game against UC Davis on October 10. Amongst the WCC leaders, Shuree is in fifth place for goals scored, ninth place in total assists and is in sixth place for individual scoring.
In regards to the USF record books, Shuree's 14 goals scored in her two years at San Francisco, places her ninth all-time amongst USF goal scorers. Furthermore, Shuree is now one game winning goal away from entering 3rd place in that category.
Annika Schmdit - Through 12 games this season, Annika has scored five goals and two assists for a total of 12 points. Schmidt, in the midst of her second season at San Francisco has a career total of eight goals and 10 assists in 30 games played. Furthermore, Annika has 10 assists for her career, which represents the sixth best in school history. Annika will need four more assists to move into the top five assists leaders in school history.

Coaching with Experience - Pamela Kalinoski enters her fourth season as head coach at the University of San Francisco after two years apprenticing for the role in the assistant head coach position. Kalinoski enjoyed a tremendous playing career at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, competing on a Tar Heel's team that won four consecutive NCAA women's soccer titles without losing a single match. Advising Pam will be fourth-year assistant coach Allison Gibson, who graduated in 1995 from Sonoma State and third-year goalkeeper coach Jason Werner who graduated from USF in 1996
Coaching Milestone- Over her four years as head coach at USF, Pamela Kalinoski has compiled an overall record of 29-37-5, which is good enough for second place in total wins for USF women's soccer coaches. The coaching leader in victories at USF for women's soccer is Jean Paul Verhees who compiled an impressive 89-95-12 record in his 10 years at the helm of the USF women's soccer program.

Last Meeting - In the 2003 season, #6 Santa Clara defeated USF by a 2-1 margin. The game was tied at 1 piece when Broncos forward Tina Estrada was able to score a late goal and give Santa Clara the 2-1 victory.
All-Time - Since 1992 Santa Clara has defeated USF all 11 times the two teams have faced one another.
