USF Women Continue WCC Play

The Week Ahead - USF 7-5-3; 1-2-0 on the season will look to bounce back after a pair of tough home loses as they travel to the Los Angeles area to play West Coast Conference rivals Loyola Marymount and Pepperdine. LMU is currently 7-5-3;0-2-1 on the season and will play host to San Francisco on Friday, October 22 at 4:00 pm. The Pepperdine Waves are 7-4-2, 0-2-1 on the season, will host the Dons on Sunday, October 24 at 1:00 pm.
The Week That Was - On Friday, October 15, USF hosted the #25 ranked San Diego Toreros at Negoesco Stadium in San Francisco. The Dons fell behind early and despite a spirited comeback were unable to pull even as they lost the contest by a 2-1 margin. The loss represented USF's first defeat in five games.
Two days later, USF was at home for another WCC matchup as #12 Santa Clara made a visit to the Hilltop. After an evenly played first half, Santa Clara was able to gain the upper hand in the second period and pull out a 1-0 victory on a rainy and windy afternoon in San Francisco.
The Following Week - USF will have a quick turn around from their weekend games in Southern California, because on Tuesday, October 26, Hawaii will pay a visit to Negoesco Stadium to face the Dons. For USF, the game against Hawaii represents a pause from their WCC schedule, as the game signifies their first non-WCC match in two weeks and their last non-conference match of the regular season. Five days later, USF will travel to Portland to face the # 4 ranked Portland Pilots. Last year the Pilots defeated San Francisco by an 8-0 score.
WCC Notes - USF is currently in third place in the WCC standings. Their 1-2-0 record puts them just behind #12 Santa Clara and Gonzaga who both own a 2-1-0 WCC record. Tied for first place in the conference are #4 Portland and #25 San Diego, as both teams are sporting an impressive 3-0-0 record. Beneath USF in the standings are Pepperdine and LMU, the two opponents the Dons will face this week. Both teams share an 0-2-1 record. Finally, Saint Mary's College is in last place in the WCC with an 0-3-0 record.
Player Notes:
Chelsea Hunt - Chelsea is in the midst of a breakout 2004 sophomore season. After 15 games, Hunt has seven goals, which is good enough for first place in goals scored on the team. Her 16 points on the season puts her in first place on team scoring, one point ahead of forward Shuree Hyatt. Furthermore, Chelsea is in sixth place amongst WCC scoring leaders.
This season Chelsea has recorded four game winning goals, which gives her six game winners through her two-year USF career. Hunt is now tied for third in USF history in that category. Hunt is now two game winning goals away from second place all-time in USF women's soccer history.
Shuree Hyatt - Is currently in second place in team scoring with 15 points (6G, 3A). Hyatt recently recorded her first collegiate hatrick in a game against UC Davis on October 10.
Amongst the WCC leaders, Shuree's six goals places her in eighth spot in the WCC, while her 15 total points is good enough for ninth place in the individual scoring category in the WCC.
In regards to the USF record books, Shuree's 14 goals scored in her two years at San Francisco, places her ninth all-time amongst USF goal scorers. Furthermore, Shuree is now one game winning goal away from entering 3rd place in that category.
Annika Schmdit - Through 14 games this season, Annika has scored five goals and two assists for a total of 12 points. Schmidt, in the midst of her second season at San Francisco has a career total of eight goals and 10 assists in 30 games played. Furthermore, Annika has 10 assists for her career, which represents the sixth best in school history. Annika will need four more assists to move into the top five assists leaders in school history.

Coaching with Experience - Pamela Kalinoski enters her fourth season as head coach at the University of San Francisco after two years apprenticing for the role in the assistant head coach position. Kalinoski enjoyed a tremendous playing career at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, competing on a Tar Heel's team that won four consecutive NCAA women's soccer titles without losing a single match. Advising Pam will be fourth-year assistant coach Allison Gibson, who graduated in 1995 from Sonoma State and third-year goalkeeper coach Jason Werner who graduated from USF in 1996
Coaching Milestone- Over her four years as head coach at USF, Pamela Kalinoski has compiled an overall record of 29-39-5, which is good enough for second place in total wins for USF women's soccer coaches. The coaching leader in victories at USF for women's soccer is Jean Paul Verhees who compiled an impressive 89-95-12 record in his 10 years at the helm of the USF women's soccer program.
Scouting the Opponents:
Loyola Marymount - The Lions are 7-5-3 on the season and are 0-2-1 in WCC action... they lost their last game to #4 Portland 1-0 in overtime... last won on October 3rd in a game against Eastern Michigan by a 3-1 score... leading scorer is junior Lori Simms... Simms has seven goals and five assists on the season, which is good enough for 19 points... junior Kellie Schroeder is in second place in team scoring for LMU, she currently has 11 points on the season, five goals and one assist... splitting the goalkeeper duties are senior Kelly Yukihiro and freshman Joslyn Slovek... Gregg Murphy is in his ninth season as head coach of the LMU women's soccer program.
Last Meeting - Last season the Lions defeated USF by a 4-0 score at Sullivan Field in Los Angeles.
Since 1993 - LMU leads the series with a 6-4-1 record. Furthermore, Loyola Marymount has defeated USF in six consecutive seasons. The Dons last victory over LMU occurred during in 1997, as USF defeated the Lions by 2-1 score.
Pepperdine - The Waves are 7-4-2 on the season and 0-2-1 in WCC play... are currently on a two game losing streak with their loses coming against #4 Portland and Gonzaga... were ranked 20th in the nation heading into last weekends action... balanced offensive attack is led by junior forward Jenna Fodor, who has nine points on the season (4G, 1A)... Fodor is leading the team in scoring despite only playing in eight games this season... Ali Pavoni is leading the team in assists with three... Tim Ward is in his seventh season as head coach.
Last Meeting - Last season the #21 ranked Waves defeated USF by a 1-0 score at Negoesco Stadium in San Francisco.
Since 1994 - Pepperdine leads the overall series with a 6-4-0 record. The Dons last victory over the Waves occurred in 2001 as USF won that match by a score of 2-0 at Negoesco Stadium.
