(San Bruno, CA) - Senior midfielder Kristina Hall and junior defender Ashley O'Brien each earned West Coast Conference Honorable Mention as announced by the conference today. Hall earned Second Team accolades last season and this is the first WCC honor for transfer O'Brien.
Hall led the Dons with four goals on the season, and added one assist for nine points. She scored in the Dons first game of the season, helping USF to a 2-0 win against San Francisco State (8/21), then scored twice in a 4-0 drubbing of Academy of Art (8/30). Her final goal came in the 3-0 win over Fairfield in the USF odwalla/Nike Classic (9/6). Her assist came in the 2-1 win over conference and Bay Area foe Saint Mary's (10/11).
O'Brien, who transferred from UCONN, had a successful year for the Dons in the back. She scored her first ever collegiate goal in the 2-2 overtime tie at Eastern Washington (9/25). O'Brien also added assists against San Diego (10/18) and a 1-0 win at Bakersfield (11/1).
"I am thrilled that both Kristina and Ashley were recognized by the fellow teams in our conference," said head coach Mark Carr. "They have had an outstanding season and have gone a long way in giving us our first winning season since 2004."
For the third straight season the University of Portland posted an undefeated conference record and for the third straight season the Pilots were rewarded with the Player of the Year and the Coach of the Year honors. Portland senior Michelle Enyeart took home the conference's top honor, while Pilots' Head Coach Garrett Smith earned the league's top coaching accolade. Santa Clara senior Jordan Angeli was named the WCC Defensive Player of the Year, while Portland's Kendall Johnson and Santa Clara's Allie Vernon shared the league's Freshman of the Year award.
