Dons Earn Doubles Point, Fall To Aggies
(Davis, Calif.) - The University of San Francisco women's tennis team earned a doubles victory Saturday as the Dons dropped a 6-1 decision to No. 63 UC Davis Saturday in Davis. The Dons got on the board early against the Aggies, but were unable to carry the momentum into singles action.
San Francisco got off on a strong foot, earing wins at the No. 2 and 3 doubles position. Playing No. 2 doubles, Yurie Hashiguchi and Marina Nikolic defeated Dahra Zamudio and Nicole Koehly 8-6. USF earned the point as Alana McMahon and Melinda Akerbrant posted a strongly fought 9-7 win over Layla Sanders and Ellie Edles at No. 3.
In singles action, UC Davis garnered victories across the board. Hashiguchi battled at No. 5, but fell 6-7, 6-1, 1-0 (9) after the early lead. McMahon also posted strong play at No. 6, but was unable to up-end Edles, falling 7-6 (5), 7-6 (3).
The Dons return to action February 17 as they host San Jose State at 1 p.m.
