Feb. 1, 2010
(San Francisco, CA) - After schedule changes and postponements due to inclement weather, San Francisco women's tennis finally got started, and in a good way. The Dons earned a 4-3 win over West Coast Conference and Bay Area rival Santa Clara on Sunday afternoon at the Cal Tennis Club.
Santa Clara earned the doubles point, taking two of three matches played. No 1 doubles team, juniors Jennifer-Lee Heinser and Cecilia Gratian defeated SCU's freshmen Alex Zaniewski and Jessica Agra 8-2 for the Dons only doubles victory.
USF made up for the lost point in singles, coming away with four of six matches won. Heinser continued her dominance, taking a 6-2, 6-2 sweep over freshman Kelly Lamble at the No. 1 position. Gratian also earned a win in the No. 3 spot, defeating Agra in three sets 6-3, 2-6, 6-4. The Dons then got wins from the Nos. 5 and 6 positions, with sophomore Alana McMahon defeating junior Carmen Pham in two sets 6-4, 6-4 and freshman Yurie Hashiguchi earned the 6-2, 6-1 win over sophomore Isabelle Hoy.
USF returns to action on Friday, February 5 at UC Davis. Match time is set for 1:30 PM.
