Women's Tennis Falls to No. 13 Stanford

(Palo Alto, CA) - San Francisco suffered a tough loss to No. 13 Stanford in women's tennis action on Friday afternoon. The Cardinal took a 6-0 win over the Dons.
In doubles play, Stanford swept USF to earn the point, going up 1-0. The No. 1 doubles team of Hilary Barte and Lindsay Burdette earned an 8-2 win over USF's top doubles team, juniors Jennifer-Lee Heinser and Cecilia Gratian. Stanford's Mallory Burdette and Stacey tan defeated freshman Yurie Hasiguchi and sophomore Julia Wartenburger 8-1, followed by Dons freshman Melinda Akerbrant and sophomore Alana McMahon falling to Veronica Li and Carolyn McVeigh 8-1.
In singles play, Stanford took wins in all positions, including the number one spot. No. 18 Hilary Barte had a 6-3, 5-3 lead on Heinser before play was suspended. Wartenburger fell to L. Burdette 6-3, 6-3, and Gratian dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision to Tan. M. Burdette defeated Akerbrant 6-1, 6-1, and McVeigh earned a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of McMahon. Hasiguchi fell to Li 6-3, 6-1.
USF returns to action on Sunday, hosting Santa Clara at the Cal Tennis Club. Match begins at 1:00 PM.
