Women's Tennis Falls to UC Santa Barbara 5-2

(San Francisco, CA) - USF women's tennis took two singles wins and a doubles win, but fell to UC Santa Barbara 5-2 at the Cal Tennis Club on Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the Dons to 1-4 on the season.
Juniors Jennifer-Lee Heinser and Cecilia Gratian were the only Dons to take singles wins, while Heinser and freshman Melinda Akerbrant earned a doubles victory.
In doubles, Heinser and Akerbrant defeated Natalia Lozano and Jordan Dockendorf 8-6, but it wasn't enough as two Dons team fell and UCSB was awarded the point.
In singles, No. 65 Heinser defeated UCSB's Sofia Novak in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1, and Gratian earned a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Asagi Onaga. Sophomore Julia Wartenburger and Akerbrant gave their opponents a tough go, each taking their respective match to three sets. Wartenburger fell to Lozano 7-6, 2-6, 6-2, while Akerbrant dropped a 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 match to Annabel Gledden.
USF returns to action tomorrow, February 14 at Saint Mary's. The match begins at noon.
