Women's Tennis Defeats UC Riverside 4-1

(San Francisco) - UC Riverside won the doubles point, but San Francisco rebounded in singles play with wins at number two, four and six to take a 4-1 victory in a contest shortened by rain Saturday in non-conference women's tennis action at The Olympic Club. With the win, the Lady Dons (4-0) remain undefeated on the season, while the Highlanders (2-4) drop their second straight. Anna Skogerboe keyed a strong singles effort by USF with a 6-3, 6-3 victory against Casey Cross at number two, while Beate Bernhoft downed Carolyn Mitchell 7-5, 6-2 at number four. Michelle Duncan cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 victory against Miranda Lagac at number five, while Courtney Chung earned a 6-2, 6-4 win in the sixth slot against Kristina Schuster. USF number one Gabi Ruiz battled back from a 5-7 loss in the first set to take the second 6-4 and she and Michelle Beyronneau were deadlocked 8-8 in the super tiebreaker, but the match was called due to rain. Carey Savage's match at number three was also suspended with her leading Kelley Takeshita 6-4, 4-4.
