Women's Tennis Earns 5-2 Victory over Pacific

(San Francisco, CA) - San Francisco women's tennis returned to the win column, defeating Pacific 5-2 at Cal Tennis Club on Saturday afternoon. USF improves to 2-5 on the season.
In doubles play, junior Jennifer-Lee Heinser and freshman Melinda Akerbrant defeated junior Jenifer Widjaja and senior Sasha Fisher 8-3, and sophomore Julia Wartenburger and freshman Yurie Hashiguchi earned an 8-6 win over freshman Julia Hansen and sophomore Sarah Irvin. Juniors Cecilia Gratian and Jessy Mekpoh dropped a tough decision, 9-8 (4).
In singles play, USF earned wins at Nos. 1, 4, 5, and 6 on the day. No. 65 Heinser earned a 6-1, 6-1 sweep of Widjaja and Akerbrant took a 6-3, 6-3 win over junior Olga Gumenyuk. Hashiguchi defeate4d Irvin 6-3, 6-4, and sophomore Alana McMahon earned a 6-3, 2-6, 10-6 win over Fisher. Wartenburger fell 6-3, 7-6 (3) to freshman Christina Goehl at No. 2, and Gratian dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision to Hansen.
The Dons host Hawai'i at the Olympic Club on Sunday. Matches begin at 3:00 PM.
