Final Stats Get Acrobat Reader

(San Francisco, CA) - USF women's tennis defeated Xavier 6-1 at Golden Gate Park on Thursday afternoon. The dons took five singles wins and earned the doubles points with two victories.

In doubles play, junior Jennifer-Lee Heinser and freshman Melinda Akerbrant defeated Kelsey Kinnard and Tifanie Treece 8-2, and sophomore Alana MaMahon and freshman Yurie Hasiguchi earned the 8-2 win over Christie Pleiman and Katie Pleiman.

In singles play, No. 65 Heinser swept Katie Pleiman 6-0, 6-0 to earn her team leading ninth win of the season. At the No. 2 spot, sophomore Julia Wartenburger took down Treece 6-4, 6-3, while junior Cecilia Gratian earned the hard fought 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 win over Jill Druco at the No. 3 spot. Akerbrant won at No. 4, defeating Kally Alkire in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3 and McMahon defeated Kinnard 1-6, 7-6, 6-4 at No. 6. Hasiguchi fought at the No. 5 position, but fell in three sets 6-3, 2-6, 10-1 to Kaitlyn Zinn.

USF returns to action against Southern Utah on Saturday, March 6 at Golden Gate Park. The match is set to begin at 11:00 PM.
